Bjork is one of the most talented songwriters from the last hundred years. This track called "Joga" is a unheard before mixture of classical, electronica and industrial. I bet the students at the music academies will study this in twenty years. Emotional. Lyrics here.

you'll be given love

for the fourth time i will attempt to post my revolutions for 2008. it seems i keep writing, then reflect back and find what i've said to be vague or even worse, trite. though that is not at all what i mean to convey. i guess i'm over-thinking my words. so here goes again...

2008:
1. listen to the inner voice that reveals God to me.  don't be discouraged by outside forces.
2. along with that, enjoy and focus on the religious liberation discovered at the end of 2007 - there is no church or set of dogmas that can override the true beauty of realizing the creator's love in even the very smallest part of my ever day life.
3. find new ways to convey love to my husband. this is a new chapter of life: married with children. don't forget that we are "we" still.
4. be transparent to my children and open to what we have to teach each other. 
5. figure out what i desire to do artistically and follow those paths wherever they may lead: music, painting, drawing, writing, photography, journaling, sculpture. i've gotten away from these areas due to major life changes, becoming a new mom....
6. people are the image of God; find beauty and love in people, not negativity and distrust. always an ongoing work for me.
7. allow this new house to be more of an expression of who we are as a family. it takes a while for me to settle into a new house.
8. get better at snail-mail communication. i renew this resolution every year. alas.
9. continue to investigate the philosophy of existentialism
10. keep off the weight and tighten up!
11. find important ways i can personally be involved in causes which make the world a better place, both locally and globally. make sure these are places where my family can feel just as invested. another reason for this - i want to be sure both children grow up with a big world-view. my husband and i are considering PLAN USA for sponsoring a child. i'm always open to suggestions from you who consider this a part of your family life; i'd love to know what you do. in a couple of years, we hope to be able to travel internationally with the children. i think it's so important to for children to see more than their own back yard if that is an option.

so there they are. already this year, i feel excitement about new things happening. i love new beginnings.

I had the great pleasure and even greater luck to see Björk live on Tuesday's night when she stopped to play in my hometown for a bit more than 4000 people and for less than what usually she gets per show.  Words cannot describe or in fact I have this post-orgasmic situation going on because I have never experienced such collective energy other than watching soccer matches and that's just from afar.

When the date, venue and price of tickets were announced, I thought I didn't have a shot and I decided that I wouldn't go but then my plans changed as soon as I got paid.  My mom was really upset but my dad had a different reaction, you know....he always says to me that we are better than musicians because we pay them to play, therefore they depend on us  .  I think he tries to humanize superstars somehow.

Anyways, he was very happy because I was part of that small group of people who went to the show.  But I didn't care much of that elite side until I was there and I saw lots of beautiful, tall and white people at the VIP area and around me at the general area.  I started to feel a bit uncomfortable because nobody seemed approachable but then the height problems affected some people at my right who noticed a weird looking 6 feet asian blonde guy constantly waving so we started to make fun of him while trying to figure out how we could see Björk in all that sea of heads.  Hopefully a medium size screen placed at the general area was turned on and I was before it so I didn't move anywhere else and I just had to wait for it to start.

When Björk came to the stage I was ecstatic.  Jóga is my favorite song of hers and there was a moment in which I could see her both at the stage and on the screen, then I realised it was really her and I started to examinate the other performers and hopefully I could see the reactable too.

Björk connected with the crowd from the very beginning when she let us join her while performing Hunter . She was so polite with the camera issue that affected her so much on previous dates that some few kept filming while others had to turn their cameras off.  Being there among the people, singing along and dancing with myself is something I can do because I'm an enthusiast but I didn't expect that everybody would be so into it and with her. The climax of this connection came when Hyper-ballad turned into something close to a rave, followed by Pluto. It was unspeakable so here's a video of that moment uploaded by one of the atendees in youtube.

And as I was decided to keep my own memento, I recorded the whole show on mp3, which was kind of a bad move since the quality wasn't that good in the end.  But well here it is, The Hyper-Ballad joy moment Note: This file contains awful sing alongs (lol) and due to the nature of this recording it's adviced to listen in a somewhat low volume.

So when the show ended, I was soaked, my throat was sore and the guy at my right asked me for my email so I could send him the file and in return, he invited me to dine at the restaurant close to home while he was trying desperately to flirt with me, something that was annoying me, so I came back home asap.

I hope she comes back for her next tour.

Tappi Tikarras - Hrollur

Sure, everyone knows that Björk was previously in The Sugarcubes, but did you know she was previously in many other bands? I will be spotlighting some of her early bands, I won't go into a lot of details, only the more famous ones (since many of her early bands did not have official recordings).

The first major band that featured Björk is Tappi Tíkarrass (which rudely translates to "Cork the Bitch's Ass"). They're a funk/disco/jazz band in the early 80s. They did not stay together too long, only lasting three years and managed to released one album, Miranda (1983).

Their one major claim to fame was appearing on a TV documentary called "Rokk í Reykjavík" (1982). The documentary features 19 Icelandic band and a 2-disc soundtrack was also released the same year.

KUKL - Dismembered

After Tappi Tíkarrass broke up, many of the members, including Björk, went on to join KUKL ("Witchcraft").

KUKL went on to release (I think) one album and two live album: The Eye (1984), KUKL à Paris 14.9.84 (1985), and Holidays in Europe (The Naughty Nought) (1986).

The Elgar Sisters - Sídasta Ég

Existing alongside KUKL, was The Elgar Sisters was a side-project between Björk and Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson (guitarist). Although they recorded 11 songs, I don't believe "The Elgar Sessions" were ever officially released. Some of the songs later appeared on Bjork's Family Tree boxset. This boxset is not to be confused with her greatest hits CD which was released on the same day with very similar artwork.

When KUKL disbanded, the Elgar Sisters also dissolved.

Eventually the members of KUKL became what we know as The Sugarcubes.

Björk & Trió Guðmundar Ingólfssonar - Gling Gló

An interesting side note, during The Sugarcubes days, Björk released a jazzy album by Björk Guðmundsdóttir & Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar called Gling-Gló (Ding-Dong) in 1990. As far as I know, this is the only album that her side project ever released. It wasn't even released domestically in the US until years later.

You probably didn't know, but Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar was already an established bebop/jazz/piano band. The trio broke up in 1992 at the death of their pianist Guðmundur Ingólfsson.

Incidentally, the Gling-Glo album remains Iceland's best selling jazz album of all time.

Joga

Depuis quelques années déjà, j'écoute la fabuleuse musique de cette petite elfe à la voix puissante...Et puis, chance, elle décide de venir faire son seul concert en Europe pas trop loin de chez moi...C'était un merveilleux moment passé avec elle, que j'ai eu la chance d'immortaliser en partie.
